🌿 Thursday's Big Find
Forget the hotel room. Somewhere in Kenya, your bedroom can be rolled outside for the night.
Would You Sleep Outside If This Was Your Bed?

I have stayed in some beautiful hotel rooms.
Big beds.
Beautiful bathrooms.
Balconies with incredible views.
But I don't think I've ever seen a hotel room that could be rolled outside when the sun goes down.
That is what happens at Elewana Loisaba Star Beds in Kenya.
And suddenly, the idea of sleeping outside doesn't sound quite so wild.
It sounds unforgettable.
Your Bedroom Is Waiting Under the Stars
High on a rocky outcrop in Loisaba Conservancy, guests sleep in handcrafted four-poster beds on raised wooden platforms.
When evening arrives, the beds are rolled out onto the platform.
And that's your room for the night.
No traditional hotel walls.
No ceiling.
Just the enormous African sky above you.
The official description actually calls it an "outdoor sleeping experience," and I think that's putting it mildly.
Then You Hear the Night

This is the part I can't stop thinking about.
You're not simply looking at the stars from a hotel balcony.
You're lying underneath them.
The landscape is still around you.
There's a waterhole below the camp that attracts wildlife, and the sounds of the surrounding wilderness become part of the night.
I imagine there is a moment when you realize just how far away you are from an ordinary hotel room.
And that, to me, is the magic.
A Bed With a View That Keeps Changing

During the day, the bed looks out across the landscape.
At night, it becomes a place to watch the stars.
And in the morning, the whole experience changes again.
The sun comes up over the conservancy while you're still lying in bed.
The staff even describe sunrise from the Star Beds as one of the highlights of the experience.
I can't think of many hotel wake-up calls I'd prefer.
This Is What Makes It Feel Like Wellness to Me
I'm not going to tell you this is wellness because there is a spa menu somewhere on the property.
That's not what interests me.
It's the feeling of being completely surrounded by where you traveled.
You don't visit Kenya and then retreat into a room that could be anywhere in the world.
Your surroundings become part of the stay.
The sky.
The sounds.
The landscape.
The sunrise.
Even the wildlife.
Your bedroom is the destination.
And I think that's a pretty incredible way to travel.
The Morning I Would Want

I wouldn't want an elaborate schedule.
I'd want to stay in bed long enough to watch the landscape change.
Then coffee.
Breakfast.
And eventually getting up to see what the day looks like beyond the platform.
Because if I had traveled all the way to Kenya to sleep under the stars, I think I'd want to experience every part of the place that made that night possible.
The Part I Keep Thinking About

We usually think of a hotel room as somewhere we go after we've experienced the destination.
This completely flips that idea.
Here, the place you're sleeping is part of the adventure.
Your bed becomes your viewing platform.
The sky becomes your ceiling.
And the morning starts before you've even left your room.
That is the kind of hotel stay I want to hear about.
Not just beautiful.
Different.
That's it for this week's big find.
I'll see you Monday for another Weekend Find, where I'll be taking you somewhere a little unexpected.
Until next adventure,
Shannon 🌿
